A most successful Fall Doubles Tennis Tournament culminated in five outstanding finals matches played on Saturday, December 5, 2009. Men's Doubles with Glen Dipalma and partner Greg Kriebel defeated Byron Niederhelman (Glen's father-in-law - and how do you get brownie points defeating your father-in-law???) and partner John McPeake 13 to 10. Of course, Byron and John had already cinched the 3.5 division; they wanted to experience the feel of how it is to play some of the "greats" of the 4.0's... The second Men's Doubles division found the Burgess "boys" - "Daddy Don" and "Son Clinton" besting their opponents Mike Young and Scott Hyde with a score of 13-6. Mixed Doubles 4.0 division matched up Kay Sherman and Paul Ciccone against Tracey Bean and Pat Foley with Kay and Paul coming out on top with a score of 13-11. The 3.5 Mixed Doubles was won by Linda and Tom Greenwood, who then played agains Jon Frank and Ginny Kemp in the finals. Greenwood's came won with a score of 13 to 10. Women's Doubles proved to be another very tight competition between Kay Sherman and Mary Lesser pitted against Linda Greenwood and Sue Chollet. At 12-12, they played a tiebreak with Kay and Mary ending up as winners. The audience and participants enjoyed pot luck appetizers, treats and beverages; all-in-all - a wonderfully fun action-packed day! We are looking forward to stimulating finals for the Winter Session to be held on March 6th. Watch for details about the matches and about the All-Member Pot Luck Supper that evening. |

USTA Women’s League Kicks off for the 2010 Season Three MITC teams will be competing in the USTA New England Women’s League this season. Play is held at various indoor tennis facilities in southern New Hampshire. Winners of the various divisions continue on to sectional playoffs held next summer. Our 3.0 team and 3.5 team did very well last season! Captains of the teams are: 3.0 Karin Finlay; 3.5 Maureen Petro assisted by Annemarie Pieterse and the 4.0 team Kay Sherman assisted by Nadia MacStay. The 4.0 team took a “rest” for a couple of years, but they are back in the game full force for this season! League play begins October 6th. USTA New England, one of 17 regional sections across the country that comprise the United States Tennis Association (USTA), is a not-for-profit organization committed to promoting and developing the growth of tennis and increasing participation in the sport in New England by offering quality recreational and competitive programs for people of all ages and abilities. Founded in 1927 as the New England Lawn Tennis Association, USTA New England boasts more than 30,000 individual members, 350 organizational members, 1,000 volunteers, and a professional staff of 20.
